One lucky New Jersey online gamer might be taking a vacation from work pretty soon.
During a conference call at work, an unnamed woman from the Garden State late last week hit a massive $288,000 online slots jackpot, according to a news release promoting the prize from the NJ online casino.
Playsugarhouse.com said the gambler, who lives in Sewell Township outside Philadelphia, was playing on a mobile device while multi-tasking on the job. The online casino didn’t say what line of work she is in. The woman won the massive sum on just a $2 bet on a progressive “mega jackpot” game called Divine Fortune, which is offered by many of the state’s licensed online casinos.
The gambler said in a chatbox on the platform that she “almost screamed out loud” during the conference call after hitting the six-figure jackpot.
“[H]itting this record-breaking jackpot is great for us and for the entire online gaming industry, as it proves people can win life-changing amounts online at anytime and anyplace,” said Richard Schwartz, President of Rush Street Interactive, the site’s operator.
The jackpot is one of the largest online slots prizes in the history of New Jersey’s roughly five-year-old iGambling market. There have been seven-figure prizes claimed at the virtual tables.
It’s actually not uncommon for New Jersey online bettors to win money while on the job. According to a 2017 report from Rutgers’ Center for Gambling Studies, which was submitted to regulators, more than 30 percent of online gamblers indicated they gambled online from work or during work hours. More than 40 percent of those people said it was just one or two days a week. Nearly a quarter said they gambled online at work as many as five days a week.
